This Ham Radio website is dedicated to the promotion of Digital Amateur Radio. Its main focus is packet related topics. The purpose is to offer information that may be useful in setting up and operating packet radio stations, particularly on Linux "platforms."

Of special interest may be the articles on homebrew projects for both hardware and software. It is hoped that they will encourage you to build your favorite project, or write that "next generation killer-app" code. Scope out the project, plan your time, and enjoy the homebrew aspects of packet radio!

Packet radio makes a great hobby, but can find special application in times of emergencies or disasters. Consider what you can do to assist others by maintaining an emergency packet radio station.

Please note that this site is a "work in progress" and may not supply all the information that you might need... However, extra care has been taken to fully document all software and hardware projects using analytical commentary, configuration file excerpts, shell scripts, schematics, tables, and photographic illustrations where applicable.

Welcome to my download page. You will find a selection of software and circuits or schematics for downloading. For Windows, Linux, and Mac platforms. Most softwares are for soundcard use, with a few additional files which are useful when using the PC. Please make use of this page, and if you find any links which do not work, or if you know of a software which you feel may be suited to this site, then please email me. When viewing the circuits please use the Back facility on your browser to return back to this page. 

There are a number of great softwares out there, so please do not assume that my comments represent what you may like in a software, they are simply my own thoughts. For example my all time favourite software for PSK and RTTY is ZAKANAKA by Bob Furzer. It has an uncluttered screen layout, with the same wide screen waterfall as Digipan, and a real CAT control range, where you can have the choice of rf frequency readout above the waterfall, read from your radio. If you are a Digipan fan, then run this software, pull all 32 macros on screen and program them to control your radio etc. You will not be disappointed !!.

Interested in MFSK, well give Con ZL2AFP's DOMINO software a try. It is very tolerant of both band conditions, and radios. You will find a link to Con's page at qsl.net for a read. But just in case you find qsl.net very slow in downloading, I have added the latest version of it here. You will see two entries in the MFSK section below, the first is Con's site, and the second is the latest version.

Maybe you are interested in experimenting with NBTV narrow bandwidth TV pictures. HB9TLK has developed a fascinating experimental software where you can send or receive moving pictures in a 60 line, 1.3 frame per second format. You should have a webcam attached to your pc if you want to send pictures. In any event download the file which is in the SSTV section and have a play.

LOGGER32BIT is by Bob Furzer K4CY. Quite apart from supporting a great logging software, it has PSK31, and RTTY modes available. I have included both the single 14Mb size full install file, together with the upgrade only file in the software section for downloading. I can split the larger 14Mb file if you have difficulty downloading it. Please email me. If you have any queries about using the software please join the hamlogger reflector group.  It is imperative that you support this software with constructive feedback to the group, remembering that this software by Bob is FREE, and has taken some considerable effort by both Bob, and a number of guys in Bobs team to get to this point. All without any external sponsorship, or product marketing, simply radio amateurs doing things for their fellow radio amateurs in their own time, and personal cost. Sergei UA9OSV of www.dxsoft.com has a great range of software some of which you will find below, and his site is ALWAYS an interesting visit.  His TrueTTY multimode software is very good value for money, and one which I use for fsk rtty in particular. What you see is what you get with Sergei's software, he does not compromise it's integrity in any way. The help file is as it says, a very good help file .

MixW software has been a work in progress since it's inception with an MSDos version circa 1996.  A work in progress simply means that it is constantly being revamped to include the latest modes. As of the latest beta release it now includes the multitone mode "Olivia", and "Contestia". Well worth checking out that's for sure. This is not a free software however, and the demo software is time restricted. A great software without doubt, and the only slight negative comment I could make is that the help files are not as detailed as they could be,  this is offset by the fact it has a great user support group on yahoo. Looking to play with high definition SSTV on HF, well take a look in the SSTV software section for DIGTRX software by PY4ZBZ. It is unreal !  DIGTRX is a program for digital transfer of any file type, like texts, pictures, programs, etc..., using RDFT, Redundant Digital File Transfer

There seems to be a growing need for the factual reporting method for PSK31 signals RS is okay, but T is not much use, and PSB ( Print, Strength, and Bandwidth ) seems a better alternative ?. Here is a software which you should use regularly. It scans your machine for spyware, and gives you the opportunity to kill it. Called Spybot by Patrick Kolla  you can download from this page in the Utility section, or check out Patrick's site at http://security.kolla.de/. Below is the script from Patrick regarding Spywares, and it should come as no surprise to guys whom use the internet regularly.  Keep your Virus checking software updated constantly is the best advice.

Spybot - Search & Destroy can detect and remove spyware of different kinds from your computer. Spyware is a relatively new kind of threat that common anti-virus applications do not yet cover. If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you didn't intentionally install, if your browser crashes, or if you browser start page has changed without your knowing, you most probably have spyware. But even if you don't see anything, you may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging that is silently tracking your surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile of you that will be sold to advertisement companies. Spybot-S&D is free, so there's no harm in trying to see if something snooped into your computer, too :) Patrick.

Another very useful range of software for web site use, or image implementation etc are the softwares on  HTML Helper http://www.html-helper.com/ . They do not charge explicitly, but request you gain an activation code for each software, and it is hoped that you will support these guys with a donation......well worth it.

Ccleaner is yet another software which cleans out any cookies or other nefarious little bits left when you go surfing. Goto www.ccleaner.com and take a look. It is free to use, but you can leave a donation if you wish.

A site well worth a visit especially if you are running Windows XP and are interested in security is Steve Gibson's site  http://www.grc.com. Steve pulls no punches, and tells it how it is. You can be assured that Steve is always at the forefront of internet security. Read his thoughts about Microsoft's inbuilt messenger you may be surprised what you find !.

Skip KH6TY has been releasing ham software for some years now, and apart from the famous Digipan software which was innovative, he has developed DigiPic for decoding pictures via psk31, and another fascinating software for blind operators called DigiTalk. See the links below.

Do you have old DOS software that you thought you would never run again after upgrading to Windows 2000 or XP ?. Well not anymore guys. You can download a great X86 emulator which WORKS!. Called DOSBOX, this software is free at sourceforge. You can download and use it at no cost, but if it works for you then please support the guys by a donation. If you want a truly versatile office suite software which is multiplatform, and free to use, then take a look at Open Office, it will read virtually any document format, and an excellent tool. http://www.openoffice.org

REMEMBER THE GOLDEN RULE. IF YOU ARE UPGRADING SOFTWARE FROM ONE VERSION TO THE NEXT, ALWAYS MAKE A ZIP FILE BACK UP OF ANY EXISTING FILES BEFORE INSTALLING A NEW UPGRADE INTO THE SAME FOLDER OR DIRECTORY.
